Busy building myself a dry sump motor, too many problems with breathing with the wet sump. Anybody got any advise? Where does the oil get fed back into the engine?

The oil is fed into the engine block with the help of an adapter block that is fitted between the oil filter and the cylinder block.

The block will require a little plug in the redundant hole left once you remove the original oil pump.

I could send you images if you have an e-mail address I could use.

Regards,

Greg.

If you can get the block machined, then an oil taping can go in the top of the oil filter housing and save the need for the adapter 'sandwich' plate.

The 3 modifications required from a standard block (and I assume you have the first 2 already) are:

1. Thread and insert bung in dip stick hole
2. Thread and insert bung in oil breather hole
3. Thread and insert bung inside the oil filter housing which is the feed up from the 'wet sump' pump into the filter.

Then you either need the sandwich adapter plate (which is often the take off and return for an oil cooler but with one side blocked off) or the modification I mention at the top. This brings the pressured oil into the filter housing so it can flow through the filter and down through the middle into the oil galleries.

As a question, what are you doing about a pressure/scavenge pump?

I haven't got that far yet, the project has temporarily stalled due to a change in employment location. It will be basically what I can get off the shelf, not the choice in South Africa that you have in UK, do you have any suggestions?

Compared to crankshaft speed, how fast should the water pump and oil scavenge pump rotate?

No suggestions really, just curious as to whether you had found a source. It seems hard in the UK to source appropriate pumps. Pace are permanently 4 weeks lead time and Titan don't seem to have any stock!

In South Africa there are only a couple of places you would find a new pump, otherwise we import a generic from UK / Oz / States, unfortunately our currency is now worth peanuts so always seems expensive. Still a fair amount of old stuff that gets refurbished or recycled. I have a pump and a tank stashed away ready for me but I have yet to see it, was last used on a F2 Maurer BMW so I'm sure it will be up to the task.

Having completely stripped my engine, I have an 11mm steel ball that I have no idea where it goes, I see it's listed in Burtons online catalogue, can anyone help?
