Hi everybody,

What's your experiences and advice with the different brake pad brands and compounds (Mintex, Ferodo, CL Brakes, EBC, Pagid, Hawke etc)? I have experience with the Mintex m1144, but they wear out very quickly. After that I had Ferodo 4003 brake pads, they are better than the Mintex m1144, but I'm still missing the bite. Also any ideas about the friction coefficient level?

I have in the front big pads (70,2 x 58,1) and at the rear small pads (59,4 x 51,6).

Hi Kees,I started with EBC yellow in my Royale but found that I would wear out the very small rear pads like your rears in 2 meetings,although I liked the feel of the pads.My solution was to go to larger rear calipers and discs and then use EBC blue.This cured the rapid wear and although you had to really work the brakes on the out lap-the car could out brake anything.However the principle reason for using EBC was the 50% discount for racers.
This is no longer the case so with the larger rear calipers Mintex or any other similar compound would do the trick.

I ran EBC green for a while, but started having problems with the pads separating from the backing material. This resulted in an extremely spongy pedal. Some would do this after just one session.
I spoke to EBC and at their suggestion even sent back 2 sets of pads for them to investigate - I never heard back from them.

Needless to say I don't use them any more.

To be fair Mark EBC green are only recommended for street use,however I am surprised they did not get back to you.Always found the service first class.

Thanks all. I was not thinking about to larger my rear callipers haha. I'm going to try the CL Brakes, more expensive but are having a nice friction curve and last longer.

I liked the initial bite of the EBC, but they did wear extremely quickly - I had to change pads at least every other race meeting, sometimes more frequently.
I'm currently using CLs, although they are expensive they are the complete opposite and have shown no wear at all after season! They don't have the quite the feel I'm after however, but that's a personal preference thing.

Kees, Tom found the CL pads to be a massive improvement and gave him the confidence to out-brake many people.

They may be more expensive but we found they lasted twice as long as eg 1144 so the same cost really.

I do think they caused him some problems on the first corner "dash" (ie he started to lock up a fair bit) until warmed up, so get as much heat into them on the warm up lap as you can.

I don't think anything else we bought made as much improvement to the car as these pads for so little money. You will not be dissapointed.
