Hi Everyone!

Just a quick check that I am not being fleeced......

Please can you let me know what you are charged for a race licence medical for a basic National Licence.

I've just paid out my £85 for my local surgery "Fitness to drive report"

I'm "A bit put out," as the Dr didn't test my eyesight correctly and I have to now visit the optometrist for a test.

Please let me know!

Thanks,

Greg.

I paid £100 two years ago at the Doctors Surgery, but that did sign off the whole application form, so no further visits anywhere were needed.

Thank Bob!

It is frustrating to pay up for these professional people, especially when they don't pay us regular people for advice when they need some work doing on their homes etc.

Michton46 Thank you so much. I will bookmark these folks and try them for the next one!

Marcm Yikes! I think I will be nearly there by the time I have had the eye test all the same!

The Association charged £50 for medicals by Dr Elsie at the AGM.

Thanks Alan,

Having found a small budget and the motivation to run my car, I'll be over this season to try my hand in the series.

Fortunately when I went to the Optometrist, he carried out a proper test of my eyes with some clever gizmos and my eyesight is perfectly good for a race licence.

Being a proper Gentleman and a petrol-head to boot, he saw me in his lunch hour and gave me a visual acuity test for free!

The MSA are now happy to process my licence application! "Phew!"

In future, I'll try to tie in a visit to the AGM and if possible get my medicals done there instead.

Greg.

I normally get my 2 years eye test done before I go for my medical
Then I go see Mark at Racing Medics as he is not that far away and good for a bit of banter
If you need ECG for international licence medical he can do them as most surgeries cannot and if you have HGV licence kill 2 birds with one stone.

Mark always does the pee in cup for diabetes check as well as an eye test and told me I need to wear the spec to race with which was disappointing as I thought I only needed them count money!

My beer goggles where no good for racing but work well for women and my rose tinted glasses where only good enough for buying that restoration project you know deep down isn't worth doing!

Logically you need to get the medical done as late as possible then the second year apply as early as possible to keep the 12 month window to get 2 licenses off the one medical.

It is total nonsense that we need medicals every year over the age of 45 every 5 years would be realistic until the age of 60 then every 2 years till 70.
If you are silly enough to still want togo racing over 70 then you should be entitled to free licence medical and entry fees!

Yes, from now on, I will be getting my optical tests done by a specialist optician so as to keep my spectacle prescription correctly up to date.

Once armed with a reliable eye test certificate, I'll attend to the medical report as a separate entity, hopefully being able to avoid the frustration I suffered this time round.
