This is an interesting topic.

I've been watching the thread from the background as I have a soft spot for the URS cars. So it appears that what you need is interest in the cars and people who would like to race them with sufficient funds to do so. I could fall into that category, so what would make me interested in buying one? For me personally it would have to fall to the HSCC, of all the clubs I've raced with they are where I would want to be and not just for the racing either, the club is ran well as are the events the staff are all real enthusiast, no detriment to the other clubs but cars of this era just fit well with similar aged cars at a race meeting. However I would not want them full time with historic ff2K this would simply de value our existing cars and I don't believe add anything to what we already have. The best fit currently in my opinion would be to team up with CF3 this would give them a boost but also I believe help to promote URS because where else can you buy a historic single seater for around 10k! The current HSCC drivers would no doubt be interested, many of them already race two or more cars per meeting and for someone who wants slicks and wings and perhaps races a 1600 or a formula junior this would be the ideal way to get into it for minimum outlay. For me its a good fit with CF3 and I'd consider buying one if that was the case. Also consider this if the value of the cars did go up would the people who have them at in the garage then be persuaded to sell them?

Ian has proven on many occasions that a well driven URS car can win outright with the current field of CF3 so again what do you have to loose?

I spoke with Allan at the Gold cup meeting and suggested that we need to make the URS package more attractive to lure the cars out of hibernation. I suggested some kind of Formula Ford festival which would include heats and finals, there would be races for FF1600 , FF2000, Classic and Historic (seperate races )and maybe even Sports 2000, Allan had also suggesed the same idea previously.
Yesterday I spoke with Peter Hacket who reckons he is already on the case and could organise something at Mallory Park, its only at the idea stage at the moment but it could well work especially with Peter and Allan behind it, then get Andrew Mansell to sort out the 1600's and you've got the three best organisers in the business.
What do you think?

I think that's a great idea. Anything like this that adds value to a race event is sure to attract more cars to the grids.

The idea of a pre 2000 classic single seater series is a good one. A well driven 8 valve Renault however would just run away and hide, 3 or 4 seconds a lap round Thruxton if I remember rightly, but it's still a good idea.

Ah yes - I only made a quick check at another circuit where it looked a bit closer. 3-4s is still in the same ballpark at least -the later cars would be more like 10secs faster. The key would be a grid of cars that complement one another. Are the 1800 Renaults a closer performance match to the FF2000s Bob?

The 1999/2000 era zetec ex F4 cars are in one of the strongest Mono classes and seem to get their best races when they are in the same race as the carbon tub 'Dallara F3' class (where the sole FRenault also races). I have no doubt a race of half FRs (with the BARC spec restrictors) and half RF82s would be just as good.

The problem is racing with 10sec per lap faster 16v Formula Renaults is going to do nothing to attract more CFF2000 cars out which has to be the ultimate aim. I'd consider it a real last resort option. Being out on track with cars that will be lapping you before the end of a 20min race has little appeal in single seaters, in part because of the additional risks with those performance differentials.

Well said Benn.
Although I'm happy to explore alternatives and would support any viable proposal, I have to admit that for exactly the reasons you mention above, I do also believe this is currently the best option for the future of the CFF2000 cars.

As the guy who had to schedule FF2000s and F3Cup Dallaras on the same grid, speed differentials is a regular part of my working life now... still, we had 33 cars on that grid http://www.tsl-timing.com/file/?f=MSVR/2015/153351m20.pdf and 38 on the other one. But not for everyone I know.

I agree with Benn, forget about mixing with F, Renaults and stick to the current format. a strong URS contingent with Classic F3's has to be the way forward well organised good racing on good circuits. Its all in place, its been tested and it works, Ian blitzed the F3 cars round Oulton this weekend.
The grids will grow just imagine if we could get some of the current crop of drivers out in 82's Benn Simms, Tom smith ,Andy Park, Callum to join Ian and Mark maybe Nelson could have a go.
In the meantime what do you all think of the Festival idea?

I love the Festival idea Nigel, we are both up for that.

The reality of the CF3 merger is not as you described. The number of URS cars coming out for races with the CF3 boys is steadily declining. It's a marriage of convenience at the moment, but given a choice we would not be there, and I'm sure, given a choice the feeling is mutual with the CF3 guys, especially the quick ones.

You might well be right about the CF3's I was just hoping to fire up some enthusiasm in the absense of anything else.Personally I think that the CF3 boys are probably just happy to be able to race against cars of a similar performance, otherwise they'd be in with the Derek Bell where the speed differentials are just too great.
Looks like we are making some progress on the Festival idea some of the big guns are talking already I believe.

We're considering the logistics of bringing a third car up to the Festival if it comes off for Ian's brother.

Mallory not an appealing choice though Nigel, can't this be fitted into the wht programme as lots of ff1600 cars there already etc. An ff2000 competition with 2 heats and a final for any ff2000, something similar for s2000 and the wht itself would be good.
