I don't think they built more than 4 or 5 at the maximum. They were well touted over the winter 81-82, MAWP got behind them in A/Sport. Just checked my old progs for 82, mainly Mallory & Donny park. Never more than 2 entered by Swallow Racing, though they had some good drivers, eg Russell Pence, Rob Wilson, Colin Jack. Also Harry Goodman, and Neil Myers. The following year, 83, Gavin Jones has one, ex-Swallow I guess, which is described as 'SP1-03'. Roger Cowman enters one also for various drivers.

An interesting question is why Pilbeams never went well on circuits in F2, F3, FF2000 compared to their great success in Speed Events?

Anthony Hancock and I went looking for a new FF2000 for him to race in 1983. We looked at the Swallow Pilbeam and were made to feel very welcome by Julian Gerard who was trying to sell them - I think Rob Wilson had put in a good word. We almost ordered one but when we saw what Reynard had up their sleeve for 1983 it was obvious that the goalposts were about to move. The planned Reynard purchase didn't go ahead either for various reasons and I don't think Anthony ever got his deposit back

Apparently there were 8, 2 are in this part of the world, Andy Lancaster has one, would love to know what happened to the other 5, I know Pierre Haverland owned mine for a while, based in Liege, Belgium but I can't find any contact details for him. I really appreciate the info, keep it coming as you remember it. Sure I would have seen these cars on one of my many trips to Brands back in the day.

Thanks Dan, that's more info in 1 or 2 posts than I think I've found in a couple of years! I did note that Pilbeam has listed the FF2000s as MP52s on his website though I have heard before that they were always listed as SP1s.

I've got a scanned copy of Autosport in which M.Pye reviews the car. I'll try and dig it out if you haven't already got it.

Ours is a chassis number 2 (I think!)

I would love to see Marcus Pye's review if you can dig it out. The car in Cape Town thought to be of the same dynasty is numbered MP52-06, is it likely that 1-5 were SP and 6-8 MP? Have attached a pic of that car, sorry about the watermark, don't know where the nose came from.

@ Andy Lancaster, got any photos of the chassis tubes around the engine bay, also where you have sited your dry sump tank and pump?

The tank is a bespoke item that fits in and around the chassis - so will in fact that it doesn't have any fixings and I've just pud rubber pads where it makes contact with the chassis. Its well packaged but quite congested!

Tubes around engine aren't aren't clear from the pics I'm afraid. There's a diagonal member which runs underneath and parallel with the face of tank towards the engine. Pump in usual place on lower left side. Side pod has a little bulge that goes round it.
