I've only just joined the forum and I'm wondering whether there are any plans to expand the eligible cars list in the near future? One car I've looked at is an 84 Reynard which is not currently eligible for very much in the UK. Seems like a 31 year old car ought to be old enough to be considered historic in some sense. :?:

Hi Johnoworcs.

The eligibility criteria for Classic FF2000 are firmly in the hands of Ken. The value of an historic racing car is directly proportional to what you can do with it and how many opportunities you might have to race it.

Classic FF2000 and Historic FF2000 cars are essentially the same in terms of the hardware. Currently, the older cars have a wider range of racing options so they're a bit more expensive. However, I have a sneaking feeling that someone with 12 grand to spare might do very well by buying an RF82...

The 83-86 Reynards are lovely cars and arguably the best looking FF2000s. If you've seen one at a bargain price then it might be a good idea to buy it and sit on it for a few years - there aren't many places to race them at the moment apart from the German organised FFR series.

...but if you want to race in 2016 for sensible money then your best option is probably an RF82, of which there are several available.

I am one of the few who are in favour of expanding the URS series to allow in the cars up to the end of the FF2000 era, i.e up to 1989. There aren't many in this country at the moment, they are on mainland Europe and in the States. Over a period of time they would be purchased as they came up for sale and it would work and allow the formula to get back on its feet again and stand alone again.
Unfortunately, with this view I am very much in the minority.

FF2000s up to 31.12.1984 are eligible to race in the Derek Bell Trophy invitation classes with the HSCC. Always liked the look of an SF84!!!

Was hoping for something other than an RF82 but if anyone has one for sale I'd be interested, especially something in need of some work.

I am totally with you on that Bob . In period the post 83 cars were slightly quicker but I think at club level a driver of the the calibre of your Ian in an RF82 would probably still be winning races . The newer cars like the Reynard 84/86 were tricky to get right and on the edge . As you say , it would possibly breath new life into a great series and bring out a lot of cars that currently are sitting in garages with very few places to race .

I don't recall it ever being discussed on here Chris, but I think I recall airing my views to you in a paddock at sometime. Re Iain's reply, I've discussed it with Ken and the BARC, Ken is against it, BARC were in favour, but not without Ken. So...................stalemate.

I'm all for allowing in later cars . I have a couple of JM14b Argo 's . We had better chat to Ken . Could. E a massive turning point for URS .
