I'm currently restoring a Van Diemen RF82 FF2000. This car was a barn find.

I'm in the process of mounting the body/sidepods/nose to the car. I'm having trouble with the nose. I don't have any detailed pictures of the 3 original mounts that attach the nose and main body work to the chassis on the front bulkhead.

If there is anyone that currently has a RF82, or pictures of the above mentioned. I would be greatly appreciative if someone could share them with me.

Unless you intend making the parts yourself, the best solution is to contact Universal Racing Services who stock the required parts. If you are going to make your own, tell me and we can fit you up with some pictures. The required parts are 4 clevises ( there are actually 4 mountings, not three), a nose frame (triangular in side view), and two nylon fork assemblies which grip the wing tube inside the nose.

Thanks for the reply Bob.

There are 3 zus fasteners that mount the top of the nose and the main canopy to the top of the front bulkhead. The triangular nose mount was fabricated and installed on the car.

It sounds like you have everything then, there should be no problem. I forgot to mention earlier, the battery sits in the triangular nose frame.

Is the dzus capture spring mounted inside the top rail on the bulkhead with an access hole to accept the fastener? Reason for asking, this car may have been in the early stages of being converted to FF1600. The 3 mounting holes for the fasteners were not in the top bulkhead tube.

@Chris. Thanks for the PM. Since I'm new to the forum, I cannot return a PM as of yet.

Is there a Van Diemen registry in the UK. If there is, I haven't stumble across one on the web. This car has a very low chassis # stamp. I would like to see if this car has any interesting history.

Hi, yep the dzus springs sit in the top rail, hasnt the main body got three dzus mounts in it?, there is a van diemen heritage site, the name of the guy who runs it escapes me at the moment, if your lucky there will be a number also on the gearbox case which will match but you have to remeber they were throwing these casr at the scenery back in the day so chassis were often replaced

I purchased new body work from Universal. When I purchased the car, it had no body work or wings. So I have installed all of the fasteners.

I will inspect the gearbox for the #. This chassis has the AM (Arch Motors) stamp next to the chassis # on the right side of the roll hoop. If it was a replacement, is there a tell tale?

Simple case of drilling 3 holes in the chassis, you have a chassis plate which is more than most have so its the only thing you can go by, id suspect that not much of the car is original.

One very old picture showing the front of an 82.

https://www.facebook.com/Monopostoracin ... 0201342417

The three Dzus holes are just visible.
If you don't have the holes then place the bodywork firmly in position and drill through the centre of the 3 Dzus cut outs moulded in the front of the body.

When I put the spring clips in I find it is a good idea to attach a cabletie round them first... helps hold them in position and saves you dropping them down inside.

My chassis plate numbers are 605 (built as an FF1600) and 650 (built as a 2000)

Chassis #82-163 AM.

In my research so far, all chassis numbers I have found here in North America, start at 500 and go up from there.
