Hi to you all, not exactly a new subject for you but for me thinking of making yet another comeback! It is all news. Do I take it that Hans devices are now compulsory for next year? If so could somebody please fill me in on all relevant details, would be appreciated , thank's.
Hope all is well with you all, things are good here, not out of the woods yet but ticking along nicely at the moment, have been through some very difficult times as you know but all signs are very positive.
Golf 3 times a week, gym twice a week ( trying to build up muscles again!) probably fitter now than before this all started! Never done weight lifting before in my life. Attacking workshop and Lola again so seriously thinking of having another play.
Look forward to hearing from you,
All the best,
Eric

Hi Eric,

Great to hear you're on the mend and even better that you're thinking of coming out to play next season! I've joined you with a Lola now so there'll be three on the grid for next year ;)

I don't think its certain that Hans are compulsory yet but it looks like it's going that way. I would assume they'll give us a season or so's grace and phase it in rather than insisting we all have to ask Santa for new helmets this Christmas.

Look forward to catching you at the AGM?

Fraser

I thought that Hans was a given for next year. Is there any doubt?

I'm sure Alan will double check but I spoke to scrutineers at silverstone this weekend and yes!!!!! We will all have wear HANS next year . I have an adjustable Simpson . I have just spoken to Max at race wear . He can do a bulk order . Contact him on 0845604104 or racewear@racewear.co.uk

I spoke to the MSA on Friday. They confirmed that all cars built after 1-1-77 will have to run with FHRs. So, Antony, John Bowles, Jon Randall and maybe one or two others will be able to run without an FHR but everybody else will need them.

Colin McKay raced a Delta at Silverstone wearing his Simpson Hybrid and didn't seem to have any difficulties. He also races an E-Type and S-Type Jaguar with the same device without any problems. Iain has an adjustable HANS obtained from Max, whom he mentioned above as he also races a variety of cars.

I made an adapter plate to move the harness shoulder mounts closer together as they were far too far apart for my Hans. I took some time measuring to make sure I got it right. Seems ok!

I'm confused about the 1/1/77 cut-off date though, why that date and why before 1/1/77?

The date corresponds with the beginning of FIA Period IR

Does that mean cars built before 1/1/77 need FHRs or cars built after 1/1/77 need FHRs?

I had read it that FHR is mandatory for all circuit racing for 2016 onwards, except for Period Defined Vehicles. Under the definition of Period Defined Vehicles, I can't see that any of our cars meet the definition.
